High-Protein Vegan Steak & Cheese Wrap
Lunch can sometimes be overwhelming.
Do we meal prep? Do we go for a shake? Do we eat rice and soya mince for eight days straight, start to hate ourselves, develop food fatigue and then potentially ruin our progress because we either don't eat enough or end up gorging on something naughty?
My partner previously did OMAD (one meal a day), which might work for some people, but when you're trying to train hard, build muscle and actually get those gym gains, trying to cram all your nutrition and protein into one meal just isn't something we wanted to keep doing to his poor tummy. (Plus, the farts were crazyyyyy.)
So I've been trying to put together an easy guide to quick, high-protein lunch options, meals that don't require hours of meal prep, don't taste like punishment and actually make getting enough protein feel easy, while helping us stay on track.
I made a little cheat sheet of lunch ideas and shared it over on Instagram, and then thought: why not actually show you how easy some of these meals can be?
Because eating vegan and hitting your protein goals doesn't mean you have to survive on sad salads, protein shakes and Tupperware full of beige food. Sometimes you want something properly bloody delicious, preferably wrapped in a tortilla and covered in cheese.

This one came from a serious cheesesteak craving, but because I'm putting mine in a protein tortilla and adding a few Sororitas-style upgrades. I thought calling it a Philly cheesesteak might be asking for trouble.... and someone from Philadelphia might materialise in my kitchen and tell me I've committed crimes against sandwiches.
So, High-Protein Vegan Steak & Cheese Wrap it is.
Plant-based steak, caramelised onion, green pepper, spinach, vegan cheese and a creamy, spicy garlic sauce, all wrapped up and grilled until crispy. It's the kind of lunch that tastes indulgent but still has your gains in mind. And the best bit? Each wrap packs in a whopping 29g of protein!
Because being a gym-going, gothic baddie, full-time working mum & vegan vvitch doesn't mean choosing between getting stronger and eating good food. We can have both.
Ingredients - makes 2
For the wraps
2 Mission Plant Powered Tortillas
1 pack Squeaky Bean Chargrilled Steak
½ brown onion, thinly sliced
1 large green bell pepper, thinly sliced
40g Cathedral City Plant-Based Cheese, crumbled
2 big handfuls of fresh spinach
1 tsp oil, for cooking
For the sauce
3 tbsp Alpro Greek Style Plant-Based Yoghurt
1 tbsp vegan mayonnaise
1 tsp sriracha, or more to taste
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
1 tbsp nutritional yeast
Pinch of salt
Black pepper, to taste
Method
Add the Alpro Greek Style yoghurt, vegan mayonnaise, sriracha, garlic powder, onion powder and nutritional yeast to a small bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy, then taste and adjust the sriracha and seasoning to your liking.
Heat the oil in a large frying pan over a medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and green pepper and cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and beginning to caramelise.
Add the Squeaky Bean Chargrilled Steak and cook according to the packet instructions, breaking it up slightly as it cooks.
Once everything is hot and nicely browned, remove from the heat.
Lay the tortillas flat and spread each one with some of the creamy sauce.
Add a handful of spinach, followed by half of the steak, onion and pepper mixture.
Crumble 20g of Cathedral City Plant-Based Cheese over each wrap.
Drizzle over a little more sauce.
Fold in the sides of the tortilla, then roll tightly from the bottom to create your wrap.
Place the wraps seam-side down in a hot grill pan, frying pan or sandwich press.
Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side, until the tortilla is golden and crisp and the cheese has started to melt.
Slice in half and serve immediately with any leftover sauce for dipping.
If you like mushrooms then these would go well in this recipe. Mushrooms however are demonic and will not go anywhere near my mouth. Heresy!
I have been thinking about this lunch ever since I had it, which is usually a pretty good sign that a recipe needs to make it onto the blog, no matter how simple it seems.
It's quick enough to throw together between work, life and everything else being a full-time working parent entails, but tasty enough that it actually feels like you're eating something you want to eat.
So whether you're fuelling a workout, refuelling afterwards, or just trying to get through Monday without living exclusively on coffee, air, and snorting protein powder, this one's got you.
Blessed be,
